Cornucopia

At the start of the Games all the Tributes are placed on a metal platform. There all in a circle around the Cornucopia, a giant gold horn shaped like a cone with a curved tail; all around the Cornucopia are the things they need to survive in The Hunger Games. Which are food, water, weapons, medicines, fire lighters. The contestants have sixty seconds before they are allowed to get of the platform and another ten before it explodes beneath their feet and they die immediately. This is when the bloodbath begins. It’s also the hype and excitement of the game, when at average half of the tributes get slaughtered or beaten to death by another tribute.  Normally, when the sound of the horn blows indicating them to all sprint towards the Cornucopia to collect their equipment almost all the contestant go for the weaponry part of the Cornucopia. Some people use this opportunity to eliminate as much contestants as they can.

Katniss knew that she would never make it fast enough to reach the weapons she needed to survive, because she was distracted by Peeta telling her to go straight to the woods. So she ran for a bright orange bag containing a sleeping bag, water, food and a knife. Knowing that she needed he bow and arrow to fight, which were already taken by another girl, leaving her with no option she ran straight to the woods.

If it got to boring for them they would also surprise the tributes with fireballs, toxic fumes and mutants to attack them while they sleep. Just to make the games more entertaining for the viewers at home.

If the Gamemakers think that there wasn’t enough bloodshed; they’ll invite all the surviving contestants to a feast at the Cornucopia, usually this feast means that the tributes have something that they desire, like armour, medicine, food or weapons and they’d be waiting for them at the same spot at the beginning of the game. Going to the feast meant taking a giant risk for your life because you'd be out in the open green fields with no protection and anybody could easily shoot you dead.

Chracters

Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen year old girl who grew up in district 12, the coal mining district in the country of Panem. She enjoys going hunting with her friend Gale and is handy with a bow and arrow in her hand. Ever since her father died in a coal mining accident she had to take over the head roll of the family, considering that her mother got depressed and refused to do anything that included living her life. Making Katniss have to hunt for their food and money. She then became the only provider for her mother and sister.

Peeta Mellark is the other tribute selected to compete in The Hunger Games. He's the Bakers son, a really nice kid, is not much of an outdoors person, comes from a more privileged side of district 12 compared to Katniss and is a lovable guy. He's also in love with her ever since the first day of school .And vows to protect her in The Hunger Games as well as sacrifice his life just so she can have a happy ending.

Gale Hawthorne is Katniss's best friend and hunting partner. He's strong and one of the best hunters in district 12. Gale’s dad died in the same mining accident that Katniss's father died from. This leaves them both in similar situations, where they both have to take care of their family on their own. Gale is about three years older than Katniss’s

Primrose (prim) Everdeen is Katniss's little sister. Prim was originally chosen to be the tribute for district 12 in the reaping but Katniss made the sacrifice and took Prim’s place in the reaping. Prim is quite, sweet and loves animals. She owns one goat and one cat.

Katniss's Mother is a healer; she suffered from depression after her husband died. After that she saw no happiness in life and rejected her daughters for a long time. Katniss then greatly resented her mother in every way possible for putting such a heavy burden on her. Her father was a coal miner as well; He died in an explosion when she was eleven. That was when Katniss had to start taking care of her family by her own.

Haymithch Abernathy was a former district 12 winner of The Hunger Games when he was a teenager but who is now a middle-aged drunk attic. His job is to coach Katniss and Peeta to victory. He turns out to be a great mentor and fights for them to stay alive. He understands The Hunger Games and the celebrity status that comes with the prize of winning. He's also a very smart mentor when he's sober.

Effie Trinket is the escort for district 12 Tributes. She comes from the capital which only means she has wealth and power. Just like anybody else from the capital she views the hunger games as nothing else but competition. Everybody else finds her irritating but Katniss has a wired respect for how fine she does her job.

Cinna is one of the stylists during The Hunger Games who chose to become Katniss’s stylist. He’s described as one of the talented designers in the book. Even though he could’ve chosen any district he wanted, he still went for district 12 which everybody thought an odd choice for Cinna because it’s ranked as one of the lowest districts in Panem. With them only being able to win once in the games, there seen as the losers in Panem. He helps Katniss within the hunger games by making her realize who she truly is and designing original and great outfits for her to wear.

The Reaping

Effie Trinket drawing Primrose Everdeen's name out.

The reason it is called The Hunger Game is because it’s mostly aimed at the poor people in the districts. If you are in the age limit your name would be automatically added every year. But here’s the catch if you’re starving and have nothing left you can add your name to the draw as much as you please in exchange for grain and oil supply. So now, at the age of twelve Katniss had her name entered four times and at the age of sixteen her name was in the reaping twenty times. This puts her at a higher stake of being chosen. Although she had a higher risk then her sister prim whose name was only in the lottery once. Prim still got chosen to participate in the 74’Th Annual Hunger Games. There for leaving Katniss with the only optional to volunteer as a female tribute for district 12 and take her sisters place in the games to
protect her from getting killed by the other tributes .

The Captial

The Hunger Games is a novel written by Suzanne Collins. This book is based upon the life of Katniss Everdeen, who is struggling in a world where the capital holds authority over the rest of its nation. This country is called Panem where the countries of North America once were. The actual Hunger Games is a yearly event where one girl and one boy aged 12 to 18 from each of the twelve districts are forced to compete in a battle against every other contestant. Including the one from their own district which means only one person out of 12 boys and 12 girls comes out of the arena alive.  The rebellion is the reason why the Hunger Games was invented in the first place. Ancestors of all the 13 districts rebelled against the capital decades ago. In order for the government to take back their power and own complete control over Panem they bombed district 13 to the ground and invented The Hunger Games as a way to show all the districts that they have complete control over them and they can take away their children and kill them.
